What is Minoxidil and how does it work?

Minoxidil is a topical hair-growth solution widely used to help manage hereditary hair thinning. Originally developed as a blood-pressure medication, it was discovered to stimulate hair follicles and prolong the growth (anagen) phase of the hair cycle. When applied consistently to the scalp, Minoxidil encourages increased blood flow around the follicles, supports nutrient delivery and helps miniaturised follicles produce stronger, thicker hairs.

At Evolved Hair Restoration Clinic, we explain to clients that Minoxidil doesn’t “cure” genetic hair loss, but rather helps slow its progression and improve density over time. The results vary from person to person, with some seeing visible improvements in a few months while others may notice slower, more subtle changes. Like all non-surgical hair-loss options, consistency is essential. If treatment stops, new gains may be gradually lost. Used correctly, Minoxidil can be a useful tool in an overall hair-health strategy.
