What is the recovery timeline — when can I expect swelling, scabs and shedding?

The first few days after a beard transplant typically involve mild swelling, redness and tenderness around both the donor and implanted areas. These symptoms are normal and usually settle within 3–5 days. Small scabs will form around the grafts, which usually fall off naturally within 7–10 days. You must not pick or scratch these scabs, as doing so can disrupt graft survival.

Between weeks 2 and 6, many patients experience shedding of the transplanted hairs, known as “shock loss.” This is completely normal. The follicles remain beneath the skin and enter a resting phase. New hair growth generally begins around the 3–4 month mark, although this varies by individual.

By 6 months, noticeable improvement appears and by 9–12 months, most patients see their final results. At Evolved Hair Restoration Clinic, we provide detailed aftercare and follow-up to ensure that your healing progresses smoothly and that you know what to expect at each stage.
